AP & ENRICHED MATH
R.C Palmer Secondary School offers students the opportunity to participate in various AP & Enriched Mathematics courses.
Designed for passionate, skilled students, these courses accelerate and enrich the covered material, up to fully cover the subsequent years'.
It is recommended that students that apply for these courses receive a recommendation from their teacher and/or have maintained an A (90%) in their previous mathematics courses.
Courses Offered
Enriched Pre-Calculus 11
Prerequisite: Foundations Mathematics 10 or Incentive Mathematics 9/10
Students taking this course should expect to handle a faster accelerated and more in-depth experience compared to a standard Pre-Calculus 11 course.
Students taking this course should also expect to participate in various math competitions
Enriched Pre-Calculus 11 mainly covers:
Exponent law
Radicals
Polynomial factoring
Rational expressions
Quadratic functions
Inequality
Trigonometry
Advanced Placement Calculus 12
Prerequisite: 80% or better in pre-calculus 11 or precalculus 11 enriched,
passed or is currently taking calculus 12
Following the College Board AP Curriculum, this course is equivalent to a first-year university course.
Thus, students that write the AB, BC exams in May and that score a 4 or higher are granted AP calculus 12 credit; This allows the student to skip the first year of calculus in university.
Studies show that students are have taken this course preform significantly better than students that took other calculus courses in high school.
A calculator, such as the TI 83-89, is highly recommended for this course.
