Workplace Mathematics
Foundation mathematics is a course offered at R.C Palmer Secondary School that aims to strengthen the mathematics skills of students that struggled to pass their classes.
Only a portion of the respective grade level of mathematics will be covered, with coverage dependent on the student's competence.
Should the student demonstrate competence in their math field, they will be transferred to foundations courses.
Courses Offered
Workplace Mathematics 9
Admission: Based off teacher's recommendation or School Board
Workplace mathematics 9 partially covers the mathematics 9 curriculum. Pacing is dependent on the student's competence in the subject.
Students will be transferred to workplace mathematics 10 unless they demonstrate competence in which they will be moved into foundations mathematics 9.
Workplace Mathematics 10
Admission: Based off teacher's recommendation or School Board
Workplace mathematics 10 provides students with the mathematical and critical thinking skills required for direct entry into the work force and trades.
Workplace Mathematics 10 mainly covers:
Computational fluency
Geometry
Measurement
Data and graph analysis
Probability
Trigonometry
Workplace Mathematics 11
Admission: Competence or credit in workplace mathematics 10
Workplace mathematics 11 provides students with the mathematical and critical thinking skills required for direct entry into the work force and trades.
Workplace Mathematics 11 mainly covers:
Computational fluency
3-D objects
Rates of change
Graph analysis
Probability
Statistics
Workplace Mathematics 12
Admission: Competence or credit in workplace mathematics 11
Workplace mathematics 12 provides students with the mathematical and critical thinking skills required for direct entry into the work force and trades.
Workplace mathematics 12 also covers all previous courses' curriculums to solidify the student's understanding of the field and develop new skills.
Workplace Mathematics 12 mainly covers:
Measurement
Geometry
Algebra
Workplace mathematics
Financial literacy
