Humanities & English LA

At R.C Palmer, for English, from grades 8 to 9, students will be expected to take humanities and English Language Arts.

Generally, these courses are intended to build the student's understandings of the communication, thinking, personal, and social core competencies required for later education.

Taking these courses, students will be encouraged to make connections from works read and  build a better appreciation of the world and its people.


 

Courses Offered

Humanities 8
Prerequisite: Grade 7

Humanities 8 introduces students to the main English concepts used all throughout high school. 

The course mainly emphasizes the student's reading comprehension and writing skills, reinforcing concepts learned in grade 7.

Humanities 8 mainly covers the following literature:

- Novels
- Short stories
- Poems
- Non-fiction
- Historical texts 
 

English Language Arts 9
Prerequisite: Humanities 8

English Language Arts 9 expands upon topics covered in Humanities 8.

The course places a greater emphasis on the thinking, personal, socials, and communication core competencies required for later education.

Students will become competent, effective English creators, confidently covering diverse texts across various contexts.

English LA 9 mainly covers the following literature:

- Novels
- Short stories
- Drama
- Poetry
- Non-fiction
