Incentive English
Incentive English from grades 8-10 is intended for students that have been accepted into the Incentive Program.
Incentive English is a series of challenging courses that, in one school year, covers the student's entire curriculum of English and an approximate 2/3rds of the subsequent years's.
Across all Incentive courses, students are expected to maintain a 73% (B) average. Otherwise, their position in the Incentive Program will be reviewed.
Courses Offered
Incentive Humanities 8
Prerequisite: Grade 7 & Admission into Incentive program
Incentive Humanities 8 challenges students with a greater pace, depth, and overall enrichment of the standard grade 8 course.
Students will explore a variety of works to improve reading comprehension, writing skills; and understandings of universal themes.
Students will additionally participate in enrichment opportunities like independent studies, group debates, and various inquiry projects.
Incentive ELA 9
Prerequisite: Incentive Humanities 8 and/or Admission into Incentive Program
Incentive ELA 9 challenges students with a greater pace, depth, and overall enrichment of the standard grade 9 course.
This course places emphasis on the communication, thinking, personal, and social core competencies, beyond expanding on the foundation of learning placed in Incentive Humanities 8.
Students explore and utilize various medias, including digital media, to become confident and fluent writers and to understand how text connects to culture.
Additionally, they will participate in enrichment opportunities like independent studies, group debates, and various inquiry projects.
Incentive Compositions & Literary Studies 10
Prerequisite: Incentive ELA 9 and/or Admission into Incentive Program
Incentive Compositions and Literary Studies 10 challenges students with a greater pace, depth, and overall enrichment of the standard grade 10 course.
This course places emphasis on the literary, compositions, creative-writing, and spoken language aspects of the art.
Students will question, sample, and explore works of different periods, authors, and geography in a supportive community of fellow authors to create powerful, purposeful texts.
Students will additionally participate in enrichment opportunities like independent studies, group debates, and various inquiry projects to boost their understanding.
