Specialized English
R.C Palmer offers to grade 12 students, specialized English elective courses to aid in post-secondary.
From literary studies, creative writing, and to English first peoples, these courses are intended to educate students on the societal nuances and applications of the language.
Through these courses, Students will also build a better appreciation of textual self-representation and garner a greater understanding of themselves and the world as educated, global citizens.
Courses Offered
Literary Studies 12
Prerequisite: Literary Studies 11
Literary studies 12 works increasingly complex English texts; Students are given the opportunity to significantly challenge their English abilities from multiple angles.
Students will explore works from different periods, genres, authors, and areas of the world, allowing them to both develop their literary ability and discover/establish their passions.
In addition, students' understanding of the Langauge core competencies will be challenged, enhancing expressive and receptive knowledge.
English First Peoples 12
Prerequisite: Literary Studies 11
Grounded in the First Peoples' Principles of learning, English First Peoples 12 expands upon the student's understandings of Indigenous culture and English from previous ELA courses.
Delving deeply into authentic Indigenous oral and written literature, students will develop their skills through creative, critical thinking as they explore and strengthen their own writing.
Creative Writing 12
Prerequisite: Literary Studies 11
This course is dedicated to students' whose passions involve creating sophisticated, expressive bodies of depth and amplitude.
Covering memoirs, stories, and a wide range of other genres, students will be given the opportunity to explore, specialize, and publish in real-world contexts.
Collaborating and developing their skills with a friendly community, students will redefine their ability to write in effective styles
