Regular Mathematics

Regular mathematics
(A.K.A foundations mathematics)
is the default mathematics class all students will be enrolled in.

Students are encouraged to develop their own comprehension of mathematics and apply what they learn in meaningful contexts, becoming investigative thinkers and building both perseverance and competence in the process.

In each respective grade past grade 8, students will be expected to cover the previous year's curriculum as a means of solidification.

For each respective grade level, a different foundations mathematics course is offered.

Courses Offered

Foundations Mathematics 8
Prerequisite: Grade 7

Mathematics 8 introduces students to the main mathematical concepts used all throughout high school.

It combines elements of mathematical knowledge with the core competencies of problem solving, reflection, and communication to help students construct new and unique approaches to mathematics.

Mathematics 8 mainly covers:

- Operations
- Algebra
- Logic
- Measurement
- Geometry
- Probability

Foundations Mathematics 9
Prerequisite: Mathematics 8

Mathematics 9 continues to construct the Student's understanding of math and thinking skills of grade 8.

Mathematics 9 mainly covers:

- Operations
- Algebra
- Logic
- Measurement
- Geometry
- Probability

Foundations Mathematics 10 & Pre-Calculus
Prerequisite: Mathematics 9

Mathematics 10 begins to delve into the elements required for higher education.

Students will continue to develop their mathematic competence and thinking skills, and are encouraged to continue developing multiple new and unique approaches to mathematics.

Mathematics 10 and Pre-Calculus mainly covers:

- Computational fluency
- Geometry
- Measurement
- Data and graph analysis
- Probability
- Trigonometry

Foundations Mathematics 11
Prerequisite: Mathematics 10 & Pre-Calculus

Mathematics 11 delves into the elements required for higher education in the arts.

It is recommended to research the admission requirements of different institutions as students that pursue enriched and AP courses are offered a significant advantage in post-secondary.

Students will continue to develop their mathematic competence and thinking skills for post-secondary. Students will be encouraged to continue developing multiple new and unique approaches to mathematics.

Mathematics 11 mainly covers:

- Mathematical reasoning
- Angle relationships
- Graph analysis
- Applications of statistics
- Scale models

Foundations Mathematics 12
Prerequisite: Mathematics 11

Foundation mathematics 12 is the Student's final year of mathematics at Palmer.

Like mathematics 10 and 11, students continue to develop the mathematics and critical thinking skills required for higher education.

Students in foundations mathematics 12 are encouraged to continue developing their mathematical competence and to construct new approaches to mathematics even post graduation.

Mathematics 12 mainly covers:

- Geometry
- Functions
- Regression analysis
- Probability
- Combinatorics
