Senior Biology

Grade 11-12 Students at R.C Palmer Secondary School have the option to choose biology as one of their senior science courses.

The courses listed below introduce students to a wide range of biology topics based off the fundamental skills learned in junior science.

Thus, it is recommended that students are competent in their knowledge before initiating a course.


That said, students will explore a wide range of biology topics — helping them both understand the various behaviours of life and apply their knowledge in real life settings.
 

Courses Offered

Life Science 11
Prerequisite: Science 10

Life Sciences 11 is an introductory course emphasizing the formal processes of science, which includes:

- Technical lab skills 
- Data analysis
- Problem solving
- Observations of experimental phenomena

That said, students will learn of the following main topics, allowing them to develop a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of life:

- Genetics
- Microbiology
- Botany and Mycology
- Zoology and Ecology
 

Anatomy and Physiology 12
Prerequisite: Life Science 11 and Chemistry 11 

Anatomy and Physiology 12 places an emphasis on students' laboratory and science core competencies,
demanding a solid foundation of the concepts explored in Life Sciences 11 to be proficient.

That said, students are expected to cover the following main concepts as they become educated, science citizens:

- Microbiology
- Biochemistry
- Human organ system
